“Kin-Health” Initiative: Professional Trainers Lead Senior Inmates in Health Exercise Program

To enhance the physical and mental well-being as well as the quality of life of senior inmates, Kinmen Prison specially invited professional fitness trainer Tsai Sung-Yi and assistant trainer Chen Kuan-Hsun to design and lead a Mind–Body Stretching Exercise Program for elderly inmates. Through professional and safe exercise instruction, the program helps participants learn simple stretching and joint-mobility exercises, improve physical function, promote health, and slow down the aging process.

Trainer Tsai Sung-Yi provided detailed explanations during the session, noting that all movements were specifically tailored to the physical conditions of older adults, balancing flexibility training with basic muscle-strengthening exercises. This allows participants to maintain good mobility in a safe environment. Assistant trainer Chen Kuan-Hsun added that the exercises were arranged in a gradual and progressive manner, with the hope that inmates could apply what they learned in daily life to improve posture and enhance overall physical and mental comfort.

Senior inmates responded enthusiastically to the program, generally agreeing that the exercises helped relieve incarceration-related stress, promoted group interaction and cohesion, and increased awareness of daily self-care and health management. The program also encouraged the development of regular exercise habits, helping participants maintain physical strength and overall health.

Kinmen Prison stated that it will continue to promote fitness activities and health-promotion programs for senior inmates in the future, providing more diverse physical and mental support resources. These efforts aim to help elderly inmates develop a sense of self-managed health awareness, deepen their understanding of the importance of personal well-being, and lay a solid foundation for successful reintegration into society.
